 A Very Aussie Christmas Blend

 Ingredient of the Month – Chamomile
A cooling calming ingredient to feature for the first month of summer, Chamomile Extract is a primary ingredient in our Body Cocoon, Eyelights Eye Balm and Eyelights Eye Make Up Remover.
A soothing emollient, Chamomile extract is refreshing and purifying and protects your skin from the drying and damaging effects of the sun.
One of the main reasons we chose to use this extract in our Body Cocoon was because of the success it has in reducing redness and itching often associated with dry skin & sunburn.
Clients suffering from Rosacea, Eczema and Dermatitis have had very positive results through their use of the Body Cocoon. They have reported a reduction in redness, swelling and irritation and a lot of that can definitely be attributed to the Chamomile Extract we use.
A little beauty tip that is a sure fire way to calm dark circles and that extra luggage we can carry under our eyes is to place cool, moist Chamomile tea bags over those windows to your soul.  Ingredient of the Month – Geranium
The history of this essential oil is so interesting...the Ancient Egyptians are said to have used Geranium to fight Cancerous tumours and the Victorians placed it in finger bowls on formal dining tables!
Originally a native of South Africa, Geranium is now cultivated in Europe, Central America, Egypt, Russia, Japan and Congo. Our products utilise oil derived from the Egyptian Geranium (pictured).
With a scent that is often confused with Rose, Geranium essential oil is uplifting and blends well with a myriad of other oils when using in a vaporiser or bath.
Why not try the following recipe that we enjoy burning in the early evening when you've come home from work:
Escape Blend
Geranium - 3 drops
Lavender - 3 drops
Bergamot - 2 drops
The oil is derived from the steam distillation of the leaves and, from a skincare perspective, it is renowned for being an anti-inflammatory as well as aiding in decongesting and balancing the skin. Geranium also has a gentle cleansing action, boosts circulation and invigorates and improves skin elasticity.

 Ingredient of the Month – Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil
A special thanks to Kimberley (aka @MissGiggly) for suggesting we write about this fabulously versatile essential oil.
We use Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil in a range of our products including our Replenishing Moisturiser, Replenishing Mask and Purifying Moisturiser.
Known as the 'happy' oil, it is expressed from the orange peel and is beneficial to all skin types. It sooths dry, irritated or blemish prone skin and is popular for its regenerative and 'brightening' properties.
The Ancient Chinese first recognised the benefits of Oranges and used dried orange peel to treat coughs, colds and even anorexia!

Bessie and Geoff Embark on a Life Change

She will also have an online presence and may even be shopping for a new outfit as you read this! We love that you love her, she's certainly one gorgeous gal!
Our packaging will be staying the same but we are doing a slow roll out of gorgeous new labeling that I'm sure you'll love. Thank you for your suggestions of tubes, but with the range being hand made, it isn't a feasible option at the moment. We hope our move to providing pumps for some products will satisfy you for the moment. The suggestion for glass packaging came up as well, but this would increase the product cost as well as postage cost and would most probably result in breakages as well, so we're going to stick with environmentally friendly PET!
We will be including ingredient listings on our website as well as a skin type guide to help you choose the best product for your skin. Stay tuned over the next few weeks for these new features.
 Ingredient of the Month – Lavender
Lavender is probably the most commonly known essential oil and one that a lot of people use on a daily basis. It is the most versatile oil and can be used for a wide variety of things. The therapeutic properties of this oil are so vast that it is included in a majority of our skincare products.
Lavender is native to the Western half of the Mediterranean and suits a dry climate. Historically, it's believed that the Romans and Benedictine Monks introduced it to the rest of Europe.
To list all of the properties of this fabulous oil would take the entire newsletter but some of the therapeutic properties attributed to the skin are: decongestant, stimulates the growth of new skin cells, kills bacteria, prevents scarring, anti-inflammatory, aids in the treatment of dermatitis and eczema, calms skin and eases burns. It truly is a fabulously all ‘round essential oil.
You can use it neat on blemishes or burns. If you find that Tea Tree is too strong for your skin when treating blemishes, Lavender is a very effective alternative...and it smells beautiful to boot!!
With the cold & flu season upon us, one of the best natural remedies is using 6-8 drops of Lavender and Eucalyptus essential oils as an inhalant. Simply place the drops in a bowl of boiling water, cover your head with a towel and inhale deeply. Make sure you keep your eyes closed tightly so that they don't sting! Once you are done, keep the bowl in the room to allow the vapours to spread.

 Ingredient of the Month - Australian Organic Pastel Pink Clay
The main ingredient in our Replenishing Clay Mask is Australian Organic Pastel Pink Clay. We like to call it the ‘all rounder' clay because it's beneficial to all skin types!
It balances stressed and sensitive skin whilst aiding in overall firmness. One of the main reasons we decided to feature it in our Replenishing Clay Mask is because of it's hydrating properties. It helps to refine delicate lines and wrinkles whilst improving the overall texture of the skin and assisting in maintaining the perfect balance of moisture.
It draws out impurities, is rich in iron and minerals and is especially effective on mature skin.
We recommend using a clay mask once a week to refine, balance and deeply cleanse your skin. An extra little tip is to do so after exfoliating so that it is treating the freshest skin possible...and remember, always keep your clay mask refrigerated!
 Ingredient of the Month – Palmarosa
Welcome to the first in our series of educational articles on the ingredients featured in the Pink Hibiscus® range.
An essential oil that not many people know about, Palmarosa (Cymbopogon Martini) is known in the aromatherapy world as an ‘all rounder'. It's suitable for all skin types and features in several of our products including, the Replenishing Cleanser, Replenishing Moisturiser, Balancing Cleanser, Balancing Moisturiser, Body Cocoon, Body Smoother and the Hand-Aid Healing Hand Balm.
The therapeutic benefits from a skincare perspective are many and varied. It is an antiseptic, hydrating, helps to balance sebum (oil) production and is believed to stimulate the regeneration of skin cells. It is very helpful for dry, sensitive skin and can assist with acne and dermatitis as well as sores or scarring.
The Palmarosa essential oil that Pink Hibiscus® uses is steam distilled from grass of the plant that grows wild in India (especially in the area towards the Himalaya Mountains).
As well as having many skincare benefits, the Indians use the oil in massage to relieve the symptoms of lumbago and rheumatism and it is even taken internally to relieve stomach disorders!
Emotionally it is calming but uplifting and can be used in an oil burner to help alleviate stress and anxiety. It is recommended if you need to surround yourself with a feeling of security.

 Pink Hibiscus® Around Town
Pink Hibiscus® has been crazy over the past few months supporting a variety of charities and fashion labels at events and launches around Australia.
We provided the skincare for the Pamper Lounge at The Victorian Bushfire Relief night held by T-Bone Media at Cargo Bar in early March. The night raised $5000 for The Salvation Army and it was a real honor to be a part of such a worthy cause.
We also supported Billabong's Design for Humanity and The Sun Herald Doggie Rescue Party.
Guests at several fashion events enjoyed vouchers from Pink Hibiscus® including the Sportsgirl and Dotti Winter 09 Fashion Preview events and the launch of new brand Miss Money Penny.
Tanning Studio Closes
It is with great sadness that we made the decision to close the Tanning Studio in Gordon on the 14 th February 2009. The Pink Hibiscus® team need to focus on the skincare side of the business and really nurture the progress that it's making and it was just too difficult to do this whilst running the Tanning Studio as well.
We were hoping to sell the business so that our fabulous clients would be able to keep getting bronzed and beautiful with the tanning products that they know and trust but, at the time of writing this, weren't successful in finding a buyer. This may change though and if it does, we will be sure to publish it online and also via our newsletter so that you have all of the details of the new owner.
Thank you to our loyal, supportive clients who have helped us grow over the past 4 years and we hope to remain in contact as your pampering skincare suppliers for a long time to come. |
