Queen Cleopatra and Nefertiti used to use honey and milk as a central part of their beauty routines and the ancient Egyptians along with the ancient regarded honey as a healing medicine.
It's one of the oldest known wound dressings, used to treat breathing difficulties, fevers and animal bites, including honey in your diet was considered to ensure a longer life and is mentioned in historical scripts including the Bible, Koran and Torah!
I don't know about you, but my mum and Nona always made me honey and lemon tea as the first remedy whenever I had a cold or cough - a tradition I continue to this day.
Now you can harness the power of raw honey with these DIY skincare recipes using items you'll most likely find in your pantry and fridge!
Blemish Treatment
Nice and simple...using a cotton bud dab some raw honey on a blemish...done!
Iso Skin Mask
- 1 tablespoon raw honey
- 2 drops lavender essential oil
- 1 drop tea tree essential oil
Mix raw honey with lavender and tea tree oil and apply to the face for 15-20 minutes. Remove with a warm face cloth and use twice a week for maximum results.
This mask will gently detox the skin, treating blemishes and unclogging pores whilst nourishing it at the same time.
Nourishing Mask
- 1 tablespoon raw honey
- 2 tablespoons plain Greek yoghurt
Mix raw honey and yoghurt and apply to the face for 15-20 minutes. Remove with a warm face cloth and use twice a week for a real infusion of moisture.
Exfoliating Mask
- 1 tablespoon raw honey
- 1-2 tablespoons oats (based on how exfoliating you'd like the oats to be)
- 1/2 ripe avocado
Using a blender, blend the oats into a fine powder-like form (dependent on your personal preference for consistency). Mix the oats with honey and avocado before massaging onto the face.
Leave on for 15-20 minutes before washing off with a warm face cloth.
Use twice a week for optimum results.
